Wild America

Roadtrip time!  Updates are going to be light (read: nonexistent) for the next few days while I drive from SF to NY.  A few weeks ago, after a ton of thought and discussion, I decided to leave a job I’d worked in for only a very short time to move back to NY and go after something that thrills me.  The fact that I’m getting married in July to a beautiful, funny and klutzy NY-based woman was a small draw too, I guess. ;-).

With the help and guidance of many, many kind people, I’ve managed to land an internship at IA Venture Partners.  To be honest, I’m still in a bit of shock, but I can’t wait to get to work BenBradRoger and all the amazing entrepreneurs whose ideas and dedication are driving big data into the next generation.  Yeah, I’m excited.

So tomorrow I’m off on a serious journey.  Thanks to some dubious weather, Yellowstone’s not in the cards, but I’m pumped for Rushmore and the Badlands. I’m trying to run a time lapse camera for the trip using my Canon Powershot SD780IS, an open source firmware hack called CHDK running a cool intervalometer script, and a suction cup camera mount.  With Murphy’s blessing, there’ll be an awesome video record of the journey.  With Murphy’s blessing.

One more thing.  This process has been extremely difficult for me, but it’s been smoothed considerably by at least two factors.  One, my now-former employer couldn’t have been more understanding.  It’s difficult to leave a job, but they were nothing but understanding and helpful.  Thank you to everyone there.  I wish them nothing but the best, and it means a lot to know that the feeling is mutual.  The second factor is the consistent generosity—both in time and guidance—of the east coast tech community I’m wading into.  With so much willingness to help (and the resulting good karma floating around), it’s no wonder this community is moving ahead at a breakneck speed.  I can’t wait to get involved.

And with that, I’m outta here!  Ping me on Twitter if you know of a good motel or attraction along the way.
